To find the best landscapes in Lisbon, you will have to climb one or two slopes, but we promise it will be worth it. From Alfama to Alcântara, there are viewpoints in practically every neighborhood, and each of them offers a different angle on the city.
Landscapes in Lisbon:
which are the best and how to get there
There are several viewpoints loved by tourists, but there are others that hide over Lisbon’s monuments and parks that are true places of paradise.
Yes, you’ll need your most comfortable sneakers to reach them, but it is a small price to pay for the best landscapes in Lisbon.
1. Terraço do Carmo: an alternative to the iconic elevator
Behind the ruins of the Igreja do Carmo, in Chiado, and right next to the famous Elevador de Santa Justa, you will find Topo Chiado, a restaurant-bar that offers you a delicious view over the city.
From there you can see the downtown Lisbon in the foreground, the hills of Graça, the Castle of São Jorge, the Cathedral and the Elevador de Santa Justa.
This is also one of the most popular places to see the sunset in Lisbon, so it is particularly beautiful there.
2. Parque Eduardo VII: much more than a garden
Parque Eduardo VII, with its perfectly maintained hedges, is much more than a garden – it offers you the perfect view of the city of Lisbon.
From the viewpoint at the top, or even on the other side of the road and further back in Jardim Amália Rodrigues, you can admire the breathtaking view that runs through the entire park, towards the statue of the Marquis of Pombal, and the exit of the river, with the castle facing its top left view.
If you are living in a student residence in Lisbon near the Marquês de Pombal, you are right next to this garden so it’s certain to become one of your favorite getaways.
3. Estrela Basilica: a rooftop in a church
There are many places in the capital that offer good terraces at the top of buildings. But have you visited the rooftop of the Basilica da Estrela? Located right in front of the Estrela park, this Basilica is one of the highlights of the 28 tram route.
Visit the church and go up to the terrace to enjoy the view of the tram lines and the 25 de Abril Bridge. Don’t forget those comfortable sneakers because there are 114 steps to the top. Again, we promise it will be worth it!
4. Portas do Sol viewpoint: privileged view over Alfama
When you are winding through the most beautiful streets in Lisbon, take a jump to the Miradouro das Portas do Sol.
When you get there you will come across one of the most beautiful landscapes in Lisbon and see Alfama full of light. The truly special and unique view over the colorful buildings with orange tiles is probably one of the most iconic images of the Portuguese capital and deserves to be applauded.
5. Amoreiras 360º Panoramic View
The Amoreiras 360º Panoramic View may not be a typical place where you expect to find an incredible view, but it is definitely worth checking out. Located in the commercial center of Amoreiras, it is one of the tallest buildings in Lisbon. The name is not misleading as this space offers visitors a 360 degree view of the city.
